IntroductoryLearning to scuba dive is a two part process:
The first part is a scuba course that consists of classroom and pool instruction.
In this course you learn the why and how of diving. This is where most of the work is done. In the classroom we teach you the basic theory of scuba diving and why we do what we do, then in the pool we teach you how to scuba dive and what to do if something goes wrong. In other words, we train you to become a good and safe diver. The course lasts for 2-4 nights. If you need additional training, we will be happy to provide it to you at no additional charge. You will need to purchase your books, wetsuit, mask snorkel and fins. Tanks, weight belts, BC, Regulators will be provided.
The second part is the Open Water Training.
You can either do it in New York or on vacation (we will issue you a referral letter). This part involves four supervised open water dives over two days, where a certified instructor evaluates your skills in an actual diving environment. The purpose behind Open Water Training is to put everything you learned in the classroom and pool together. Your skills are evaluated, and you get a chance to further build your confidence, and experience diving in an actual environment. We have trips to local destinations throughout the year. For more information please contact us or your instructor. Once you are done with your training, a certification card is issued to you.
The card is recognized worldwide and has no expiration date.
For those who have never dived before or who just want to get a 'dive license' this course will take you through the basics, from how to assemble the gear to the many ways to improve your comfort in the underwater world.
The aim of this class is to prepare you for Open Water-Part 2, the Open Water Checkout Dives.
After your classroom and pool sessions you must still complete 4 scuba dives in open water with an instructor. Here we will revise the skills you will have learnt in Part 1. You will learn some basic navigation and will get comfortable in open water.
Congratulations you are now a fully certified Open Water Diver, welcome to the family!
